Innovating Boater Education

Kalkomey boater education platforms adopt Wavve Boating as a preferred marine GPS for new boaters.

Kalkomey is placing Wavve Boating in the hands of new boaters to help them stay safe on the water.

Kingston, ON, July 30, 2021, Kalkomey and Wavve Boating are announcing a partnership dedicated to providing new boaters with the skills and tools to feel confident, have fun, and stay safe on the water. Boaters who take a course from BOATsmart!, Boat-Ed, or BOATERexam are eligible for two free weeks of Wavve Boating, an intuitive marine GPS app built for recreational boaters.

Kalkomey provides educational courses to help new boaters learn the ropes and stay safe. Offered in all United States and Canadian provinces, BOATsmart!, Boat-Ed and BOATERexam are the leading boating license providers recognized by NASBLA (National Association of State Boating Law Administrators) & the Coast Guard. This partnership supports new boaters as they progress to the next stage of their boating education – onboard an actual vessel.

Kalkomey will share the Wavve Boating app with new boaters to help them operate their craft safely as they continue to develop their boating knowledge. The app includes dynamic nautical charts that automatically update to current tides/water levels, a seven-day weather forecast, crowd sourced information, and more to help boaters stay safe as they transition from the online learning to the water.

There is still no shortage of new boaters eager to join the growing community. In 2020, 31% new boat sales were from first time buyers, an increase of 5% from the year previous . This growth in recreational boating has caused favorite waterways to become crowded. Unfortunately, the number of boating accidents increased by 26.3% from 2019 to 2020 with the leading cause being operator inexperience or inattention. With this, it has become apparent that furthering safe boating education and practises are more important than ever.

“Like Kalkomey, we strive to make the water a safer place” said Adam Allore, CEO and Founder of Wavve Boating. “We believe education is key to improving boating safety and are honored to be working with this reputable organization”.

By the end of this month, everyone that completes a course through BOATsmart!, Boat-Ed, and BOATERexam, will have the chance to try Wave Boating free for two weeks.

“At Kalkomey, we constantly strive to enhance boater safety and confidence on the water” said Kyle Jessup, Director of Marketing at Campfire Collective. “Working alongside the team at Wavve Boating to provide our students access to their user-friendly and experience-improving app was a no brainer, and the perfect way to make our waterways safer and more enjoyable for all.”
