After a long winter, everyone needs a dose of sunshine, warmth, and outdoor endorphins.
. . .
These St. Lawrence River events are just what the doctor ordered.
1. Kingston 100 Islands Poker Run
Where: Confederation Basin Marina, Kingston, ON
When: Friday August 17 - Saturday August 18
Cost: Free to spectate or check out the Charity Ride of a Lifetime $200
For the: Adrenaline Junky
Kingston loves speed: Power boats from across the continent will zip to five stops throughout the 1000 Islands. At 80mph, the competition is intense as “players” race to collect their cards and get the best hand. If you don’t have a poker face, you can watch from the spectator fleet or at card stops. After the race, enjoy a downtown street party, exhibits, live music, and incredible scenery in Kingston.

2. Gananoque 1000 Islands Rib Fest
Where: Gananoque Town Hall Park
When: Friday June 29 - Sunday July 1
Cost: Free Admission (bring cash for bits and bites; this is a fundraising event benefiting charities in the community).
For the: Foodie — and the Family
Take a bite out of summer at Gananoque’s RibFest. Dig into mouth-watering ribs and pulled pork, washing it down with suds from the beer tent. Visit local vendors, listen to great live music, and marvel at the incredible fireworks display. If you want to bring the kids along, they’ll be entertained with free pony rides and special child-friendly events.

3. 49th Annual Juried Art & Craft Fair at Stone Mills
Where: Stone Mills Museum, Watertown, NY
When: Friday August 3 - Saturday August 4
Cost: $5 at the gate; school children free; active duty military discount
For the: Artsy-Craftsy (and those who appreciate great handiwork!)
Browse the wares of 100 craftspeople and artisans —and several wineries too! You’ll find everything and then some: jewelry, leather goods, metalwork, linens, lotions, soaps, quilts, woodcrafts, honey, maple syrup, and more. Take part in hands-on demos, kids’ crafts, and camp on site so you don’t have to miss a minute.

4. Bill Johnston’s Pirate Days
Where: Alexandria Bay, NY
When: Friday August 10 - Sunday August 19
Cost: Many events free
For the: Scallywags and seadogs
Ready to walk the plank? No? How about some great family fun then? Everyone’s bound to love the sword-fighting performances, parade, pirate costumes, and skits.
